Nicole Stott flew aboard STS-128 in August 2009 to the International Space Station, returning in November 2009 on STS-129. The event includes a keynote address, patriotic songs, a host of city and county dignitaries, participation from the Knights of Columbus, the Civil Air Patrol, a 21-gun salute and placement of flowers on the 17 plaques at the park honoring the fallen space travelers. On the 20th anniversary of the Columbia tragedy, the ceremony welcomes representatives of the Israeli Embassy to honor hero astronaut Ilan Ramon.
